“Jackie Brookner: Of Nature,” the first retrospective of ecological artist, writer, and educator Jackie Brookner (1945-2015), will run through December 4, 2016, at Wave Hill, Glyndor Gallery, Bronx, New York. Brookner was renowned for her groundbreaking, remedial sculptural environments that were designed as ecological filters to cleanse gray water, urban storm water or agricultural runoff.The exhibition includes a selection of Brookner’s bronze sculptures from the 1980s and her seminal “Of Earth and Cotton” project. The goal of the show is to explore Brookner’s early sculptures and drawings to her ongoing exploration of materiality. A selection of the artist’s drawings will also be on display that have never been exhibited to the public before. Her bio sculpture “I’m You,” 2000, will be reinstalled and shown together with documentation of her commissioned water remediation projects in San Jose, California; West Palm Beach, Florida; Cincinnati, Ohio; Fargo, North Dakota; and Salo, Finland.The exhibition is on view at Wave Hill, A public garden and cultural center, 675 West 252nd Street Bronx, New York 10471.
