Poly Gallery, part of Poly Auctions, has joined forces with Vogue China to present “Inspired by Fashion — Exhibition of Art and Fashion Crossover Pieces,” a show that aims to illustrate the conversation between art and fashion viewed through the prism of 11 Chinese artists of different generations.Running March 13‑28 in Hong Kong, the exhibition will present 30 artworks, ranging from paintings to installations.Jiang Ji An and Tan Ping, two older artists, view fashion as representations of individual personality and choice, rarely referencing it in their works, while Jiang Zhi, Wang Mai, and Cai Zhi Song, all born in the 1970s, acknowledge fashion as part of a social movement, and incorporate it selectively in some works.Younger artists Peng Wei and Gao Qian integrate fabrics, shoes, or jewelry within their works, deconstructing fashion to explore social standards and individual values, while the youngest generation of artists such as Lei Meng Ting, Ma Ling Li, and Han Ya Juan find inspiration in popular culture and fashion, incorporating those liberally in their art practice.
