For many artists, their art is a stairway to spirituality; something that can be translated into peace. Harish Kumar, a Delhi-based artist is one such artist for whom art is to meditate to reach out to the almighty. Titled “Anubhooti” (presence of the maker), his exhibition was recently on display at Shree Yash Art Gallery in Delhi.Inspired by the existence of a supernatural presence, Kumar’s paintings are full of colors and godly images by almost recreating gods and goddesses in accordance with his own perception of them. Over the years he has progressed from landscapes, to figuration, depicting of Gods and Demi-Gods, his love for capturing the spiritual harmony of man with God through portraying the stories around the Hindu mythology, symbolization of Hindu gods like Krishna, Ganesha, Hanuman and even Buddha.Kumar’s paintings are not entirely of an unimaginative world but depict real-life complexities and experiences with a pinch of mysticism. His compositions exist with a degree of independence allowing one to have his/her own perspective based on thei life experiences and real-life intricacies. The artist does not attempt to represent external reality, but rather seeks to achieve its emotive effects using varying shapes, colors, and textures.Through his paintings he contemplates on a journey of an abstract painter playing with hues and geometrical shapes to express his thoughts on various aspects of life and its complicated yet simple relationships. He has exhibited his work widely in India and abroad and has been called one of the best emerging artists in the country.
