'The Super-Suburb Defense Authority' by South-African painter Carla Busutill is on show at the Josh Lilley Gallery, London, through December 23, 2016.In her third solo exhibition at the gallery, Busutill incorporates a new series of oil portraits with aspects of her collaborative conceptual project “Mosquito Lightning” to create an environment of disruption and social interaction. The show explores the role of private security in her native country as the gatekeepers between economic classes, feeding and amplifying fear on the promise of eradicating its hold. Busutill’s garish style in turn highlights certain subtleties in brushwork to illustrate the abundance of life and the ugliness of power and entitlement. The exhibition is on view at the Josh Lilley Gallery, 44-46 Riding House Street, Marylebone, London W1W 7E.
