Alison Jacques Gallery is hosting an exhibition “Sheila Hicks: Stones of Peace” at the gallery’s London location. The exhibition brings together works on various mediums by Paris-based artist Sheila Hicks (b.1934, Hastings, Nebraska), marking her second solo with the gallery. With a career spanning over six decades, Sheila Hicks’ works are marked by her constant innovation that breaks the barriers between painting, sculpture, design and architecture. Widely influenced by her travels in South America and her research, she has achieved an exceeding grip working on materials including rayon, slate, polyester, stainless steel, cotton, silk, linen, wool, and bamboo along with pure pigmented acrylic fiber to create different forms of artworks and a variety of scales - from her “Minimes,” which are intimate objects and weavings that act as diaries documenting her experiences in Africa, Asia, and Latin America; to large-scale works produced both indoors and outdoors. A veteran in exhibiting her works across prestigious venues across America and Europe, Hicks’ works are also found in major museum collections worldwide including Tate London, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and many more. Through the works on view in “Stones of Peace,” the visitors experience multiple aspects of the artist's practice, including heavily woven linen panels to soft sculptures and large scale Boules of intertwined yarns, embodying a vibrant palette of colors, textures and forms that carry certain hidden yet profound messages. The exhibition will be on view through November 11, 2017 at  Alison Jacques Gallery, Orwell House, 16-18 Berners Street, Fitzrovia, London W1T 3LN, UK.For details, visit http://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/alison-jacques-gallery/overviewClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
