Luke Heng is an emerging artist in the Singaporean art scene, but his universal approach to art draws no national identification. In his latest solo exhibition at FOST Gallery titled “The Waiting Room,” Heng creates works that focus on the art of observing, allowing his materials, including oil on linen and paraffin wax on a steel frame, to interact with one another.Heng approaches his works like an outside surveyor, allowing interaction from a distance that also allows him to assess these dialogues with his materials. His finished product is as much about the completion of a painting as the journey to get there. Seemingly, Heng is able to capture their “movement” in time. The exhibition is part of a larger “FOURSIGHT” series featuring four young Singaporean artist including Izziyana Suhaimi, Ashley Yeo, and Khairullah Rahim. The exhibition is meant to commemorate Singapore’s 50th year of independence, celebrating the events of the last five decades, but also looking ahead through the talents of these emerging artists.Said FOST Gallery, “FOURSIGHT is an attempt to project and chart the future through these young artists, who, each in their own right, are artists of incredible talent, and whom we hope will play a part in Singapore’s art history.”“The Waiting Room” by Luke Heng is on view at FOST Gallery at the Gillman Barracks from July 3-July 26.
